Class Registration

Class registration opens 2-4 weeks before the start of a new session. This is the time when full members sign up their children for new classes.  To reward returning members and parents who volunteer to teach, INCH has a phased registration schedule, which you can find on the registration site's Registration page, as the start of registration approaches.

To register your children, first log on to INCHHome.com/Members.  Do a final check of the classes being offered by clicking on the "Classes" menu category.  Then click on the "Registration" menu item to go to the Registration page.

The first thing you will notice is a picture depicting the current phase of registration and a description below that.  Further down is a list of upcoming registration events, so you can plan ahead.  Finally, at the bottom, if you're allowed to register at the current time, will be a list of all your children.  Select the first child you wish to register and click the "Register This Student" button.

Now, you can select your child's classes.  Classes are listed by hour, along with the number of spots available.  Classes that are full or out of your child's grade level are not even listed here.  If the selection for a particular hour is grayed out, it is either because your child is already enrolled in a class that hour or it is still teachers-only registration, and you do not teach that hour.  Also note that only a Board member can make changes to your final schedule, so choose carefully.

Once you've made your choices, click the "Submit Registration" button, to finalize your child's schedule.  If you fail to do this, your choices will not get saved!  Once you've submitted your registration, go back to the Registration page, select the next child, and repeat the process.

When you are all finished, visit the Family Schedules page, to make sure you did everything right.  Every registration round, there are one or two parents who thought they registered their kids, only to find that they had missed a step, and all their desired classes filled up!

Phased Registration

There have been many questions about how INCH's phased registration works and why we even do it that way in the first place. Originally, the phases preceding "open" registration were meant to be part of "early" registration, mainly to entice and reward volunteer teachers, and it also made the manual process more manageable. But over time, especially as we moved online, "open" registration started being perceived as "late" registration, a punishment for those who didn't teach. Please know that this was never our intent, and we hope that this page will help clear up that misconception. Rules and specific dates are listed on INCH's Members-only Class Registration page.

Please note that once class choices have been submitted, they can only be changed by a Board member.

Board Members

This isn't an official phase, but since Board members have full access to the family schedules anyway, they can register as soon as the class schedule is finalized.

Teachers-Only

This first formal phase usually begins four days prior to "open" registration and allows volunteer teachers to sign up their children for classes that are offered during the same hours that they are teaching.  Other hours are grayed out at this time, but will become available in latter stages.

New members are not required to teach their first trimester, but if they do, they will also be able to register at this time.

Returning Members

Two days later, all returning members are able to sign up for all hours.  This two-day phase excludes new members, even those who are teaching.  This part of the rule is possibly the greatest source of confusion.

Open Registration

The final stage allows all full-time members to register for all hours, without restriction.

Closing of Registration

Registration lasts a total of about twelve days, after which time class selections can be made only by request.

Continuing Classes

Classes on the SilverCORD schedule may be offered for one, two, or all three trimesters.  Students registered for multi-trimester classes are automatically registered for all the trimesters that those classes are offered.

Although students are generally permitted to leave a continuing class, when signing up for Winter or Spring, only a Board member can remove them from that class.  It is a good idea to contact the Board at least a week prior to the start of class registration, to ensure that you will be able to sign up your kids for all the classes they want.

Some continuing classes are marked as "restricted", indicating that they will not be taking on new students, after the first trimester that they are offered. These classes will appear full on the Class Schedule page, even if they are not filled to capacity.

Registration Checklist

  • Check that your account supports class registration.  If it does, you will see a "Registration" button on the left-hand-side of your account home page.  Please click here, to read more about INCH full membership.

  • Use the "Family Members" button on your account home page to add or update the list of family members who are attending co-op classes.  Be sure to include yourself, since you will be serving as teacher and class aide.

  • Click the "Registration" button, to check the registration schedule.  To reward volunteer teaching, INCH allows teachers to register early, for the hours that they are teaching.  Know and understand when your registration window opens, to give yourself the best chance of getting your kids into the classes you want.

  • Click the "Class Schedule" button on the account home page, to see what classes are offered, read class descriptions, and check for homework requirements and class fees.

  • When you are ready to register, click the "Registration" button again, and follow the registration instructions.

  • When finished, use the "Family Schedules" button, to verify your kids' class schedules.  If there are any problems, please contact the INCH Board.
